On December 16th, a roll-on vessel loaded with 1,786 Chinese-made automobiles and engineering machinery set sail from Lianyungang Port, bound for Thailand, a key partner country in the Belt and Road Initiative.
This voyage is a microcosm of the robust momentum of China’s automotive exports, with Lianyungang Port emerging as a pivotal hub driving the global expansion of “Made in China” vehicles.
The latest data underscores this thriving trend: in the first 11 months of this year, exports of new energy vehicles (NEVs) from Lianyungang Port reached 44,800 units, hitting a record high and marking an impressive year-on-year growth of 83.06%. Behind these numbers lies the unremitting efforts of Lianyungang Border Checkpoint, which has tailored efficient clearance solutions to support the port’s role as a gateway for automotive exports.

At Berth 68 of Lianyungang Port, rows of brand-new NEVs stand neatly, as border police officers conduct meticulous inspections ahead of shipment.
To adapt to the high-efficiency and intensive operations of roll-on ships, the checkpoint has implemented a“one ship, one policy”clearance plan and 24/7 all-weather clearance support. It has streamlined declaration documents, optimized approval processes, and shortened handling time limits, ensuring that vessels can “berth and operate immediately, complete procedures and depart at once”.

Beyond streamlined clearance, the checkpoint has also prioritized targeted services for enterprises through its “one enterprise, one police officer” mechanism. Police officers provide face-to-face, one-on-one consulting services, including interpretations of entry-exit (port) policies and assistance with boarding certificate applications, effectively reducing enterprise costs and accelerating the global delivery of Chinese-made vehicles.
“The checkpoint’s proactive services have brought tangible benefits to our business,” said Li Hongshen, a ship agent from China Lianyungang Ocean Shipping Agency Co., Ltd. “Our vessels now achieve zero-delay entry and exit, and zero-wait operations, with an average of two hours saved per ship. This has significantly cut our logistics costs.”

Lianyungang Port’s strength in automotive exports is rooted in the rising core competitiveness of China’s domestic automotive industry and surging overseas market demand. As a major opening-up gateway on China’s eastern coast, the port shoulders a critical mission in facilitating automotive exports. In the first 11 months, Lianyungang Border Checkpoint has guaranteed the smooth operation of 235 roll-on/roll-off ship voyages, laying a solid foundation for the sustained growth of NEV exports.
This upward trajectory not only reflects the global recognition of Chinese automotive manufacturing quality and technological strength but also highlights the pivotal role of port and border control departments in optimizing the foreign trade ecosystem. As Lianyungang Port continues to enhance its service capabilities, it will further empower Chinese-made vehicles to navigate the global market, injecting new vitality into the Belt and Road cooperation and China’s high-quality foreign trade development.
