Nissan accelerates global electric vehicle market layout: N7 electric vehicle will be exported to Southeast Asia and the Middle East

New Strategy for Export of New Energy Vehicles

Recently, Nissan Motor announced an ambitious plan to export electric vehicles from China to markets such as Southeast Asia, the Middle East,

and Central and South America starting in 2026. This move is aimed at coping with the company’s declining performance and reorganizing its global production layout. Nissan hopes to use the advantages of Chinese-made electric vehicles in terms of price and performance to expand overseas markets and accelerate business revitalization.

Nissan’s first batch of export models will include the N7 electric sedan recently launched by Dongfeng Nissan. This car is the first Nissan model whose design, development and parts selection are fully led by a Chinese joint venture, marking an important step for Nissan in its global electric vehicle market layout. According to previous reports by IT Home, the cumulative delivery of N7 has reached 10,000 units within 45 days of its launch, showing the market’s enthusiastic response to this model.

Joint venture helps export of electric vehicles

In order to better promote the export of electric vehicles, Nissan’s Chinese subsidiary will also set up a joint venture with Dongfeng Motor Group to be responsible for customs clearance and other practical operations. Nissan will invest 60% in the new company, which will further enhance Nissan’s competitiveness in the Chinese market and lay a solid foundation for future export business.

China is at the forefront of the global electrification process, and electric vehicles are at a high level in terms of battery life, in-car experience and entertainment functions. Nissan believes that the foreign market also has a strong demand for cost-effective electric vehicles made in China. As the global demand for electric vehicles continues to rise, Nissan’s strategy will undoubtedly inject new impetus into its future development.

Continuous innovation and market adaptation

In addition to the N7, Nissan also plans to continue to launch electric vehicles and plug-in hybrid models in China, and is expected to release the first plug-in hybrid pickup truck in the second half of 2025. At the same time, existing models will also be independently modified in the Chinese market and will be added to the export lineup in the future. This series of measures shows Nissan’s continuous innovation and market adaptability in the field of electric vehicles.

However, Nissan’s performance has not been smooth sailing. Affected by factors such as the slow progress of new car launches, Nissan’s performance has continued to be under pressure. In May this year, the company announced a restructuring plan to lay off 20,000 employees and reduce the number of global factories from 17 to 10. Nissan is advancing the specific layoff plan while planning the optimal supply system with electric vehicles as the core in the future.

Against the backdrop of increasingly fierce competition in the global electric vehicle market, Nissan’s strategic adjustment is particularly important. With the continuous advancement of electric vehicle technology and changes in consumer demand, Nissan needs to continuously optimize its product line to adapt to market changes. In the future, whether Nissan can occupy a place in the global electric vehicle market is worthy of our continued attention.
